Synonym finder
Type a word and press Find words. Click any result to look that word up next.
How to use it
- Type a word and press Find words.
- Synonyms come first, then antonyms, then related words.
- Click any word to look it up next, and open the Word Meanings pages for examples in sentences.
How it works
Results come from the Datamuse word engine, which combines WordNet with word-association data from a large text corpus. That is why a search also shows related words that are not strict synonyms.
Questions
Why are some results not exact synonyms?
The engine ranks words by how closely they are used in the same contexts. The first few are the closest; the related list is wider on purpose.
Can I search phrases?
Short phrases work ("give up", "look into"); long sentences do not.
